Welcome to our website and to our college.
We are a learning community who achieve year on year improvements in all areas. We pride ourselves on the positive relationship we have between staff and students that results in academic excellence and exceptional personal development. In recent years the college has grown in popularity, becoming a firm first choice for the parents and students in the wider Staveley and Brimington communities. Parents and students highly regard the mutual relationships that we build, rated through our annual surveys. They appreciate the part they have to play in the college’s development.
In November 2010 we moved into our brand new college buildings, established under the previous government’s “Building Schools for the Future” initiative. The college is housed in 5 learning pods that are the home of subject areas. Their names - Inspire, Discover, Create, Perform and Energise reflect the learning activities that mainly take part in and around them. Each pod has specialist learning facilities, rich in ICT, and is the home base to groups of teachers and students. Each base has a home year group who share the custodianship of the pod. The spaces in each pod have been designed to allow for flexibility in teaching and learning.
Students and staff benefit from the large social space which includes a large dining area with three serveries, a Learning Resource Centre with hard and electronic resources and an office area offering various student services. This building also houses the school hall which is an industry standard performing area used for meeting, teaching and performing.
We use our recently completed specialist facilities to the full. Students build confidence through the curriculum and the extended facilities that take place at lunchtimes, after college and during the holidays. The Performing and Energise learning pods are open from 8 am to 10 pm each week day offering a range of evening activities for all members of the local community.
Our curriculum reflects the needs of the students in our community. It is highly personalised to allow each of them to reach their full potential. We are proud of the fact that in the past few years more Springwell students are going on to further and higher education than ever before. At 16 students are able to choose from a range of post-16 providers depending on their ability, needs and the courses offered by the institutions. Despite their departure from us we still keep in touch to support their career progression.
